My dedicated server's performance has dropped recently, especially with database queries. I'm on one of their older dedicated server plans. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? Thinking about whether I need a Hardware Upgrade or if it's network related.

P PoojaR 1 day ago ✓ Best Answer
I had a similar issue a few months back. Turned out to be I/O contention because my disks were getting old. A hardware upgrade to SSDs completely solved it. Maybe check your disk I/O metrics if you can?
17
T TechFreak 1 day ago
Hmm, didn't think about disk I/O. Will definitely look into that. Thanks!

A AmitM 1 day ago
Good point, disk wear is real.

R Rahul87 1 day ago
Could be. My old server had that problem.

V VivekG 1 day ago
Not sure honestly. My cloud server has been consistent. Maybe open a ticket with support? They can usually pinpoint if it's hardware or network on their end.
12
T TechFreak 1 day ago
Already did, waiting on their response. Just wanted to see if it was a widespread thing.

I noticed a slight slowdown last week on my bare metal server, but it seemed to clear up after a couple of days. Could be general network congestion or maintenance that affected some routes. Did you check your server monitoring logs?
0
T TechFreak 1 day ago
Logs don't show anything specific, CPU and RAM look normal.

C CoolBoy88 1 day ago
Mine was fine. Which datacenter are you in?

My cloud server with NYCServers has been acting up a bit. Random slowdowns during peak hours, mostly affecting database queries. Anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? I'm on one of their standard Cloud Server plans.

C CloudArchitect 3 days ago ✓ Best Answer
I haven't noticed anything unusual with my cloud server, but I'm on a private cloud instance, not their standard one. Could be resource contention if you're on a shared node for the standard plan. Have you checked your resource usage graphs in their portal?
14
S ServerGuyNYC 3 days ago
Might be worth opening a ticket. They can usually check underlying hypervisor stats that you don't see.
3
D DataDude77 3 days ago
Yeah, CPU and RAM look okay, not maxed out. It's really just IO that spikes, which makes me think database. But it's so intermittent.
6
N NewbieHost 3 days ago
Following. I was thinking of upgrading my smaller cloud instance with them, but this makes me hesitant. Hope you get it sorted.
4
D DataDude77 3 days ago
Thanks, will update if I find a solution or if support has any insights.

H HappyHost 3 days ago
Mine's been fine, so it might be an isolated thing. Don't let one report scare you off entirely.
7
D DBMaster 3 days ago
I had a similar issue with another provider way back. Turned out to be noisy neighbors hogging disk I/O. NYCServers usually has good hardware, but it can happen. What kind of database are you running?
1
D DBMaster 3 days ago
Could still be a configuration issue then. Sometimes default MySQL settings are not optimal for cloud environments.
3
D DataDude77 3 days ago
Just a standard MySQL. Nothing crazy. It's a small app, so the load shouldn't be an issue.

Finally switched from my old provider to NYCServers dedicated last week. Setup was mostly smooth, but getting used to their control panel. Anyone have tips for optimizing a Wordpress site on their dedicated servers? I'm on a pretty standard Ubuntu setup.

S ServerGuru88 3 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
Congrats on the switch! I've been with NYCServers for about 6 months now on a dedicated box. For Wordpress, definitely look into Nginx + PHP-FPM. Apache can be a bit heavy. Also, Redis for object caching makes a huge difference. Their support can help with the initial setup for those if you're not super comfortable in the terminal.
7
S ServerGuru88 3 weeks ago
Redis is pretty straightforward. Plenty of good tutorials out there. NYCServers also has some docs on their site for it if I remember right.
0
T TechGuyNYC 3 weeks ago
Yeah, I'm using Nginx already, but haven't touched Redis yet. Is it hard to configure?
0
W WebDevMike 3 weeks ago
Seconding Redis, it's a game changer for WP performance. Also, check your MySQL config, sometimes default settings aren't ideal for WP loads.

I'm still on shared hosting, but thinking of moving to dedicated with NYCServers soon. How's the general performance been for you so far? Any weird network latency or anything to watch out for?
12
T TechGuyNYC 3 weeks ago
Performance has been solid so far. No noticeable latency issues from where I am (Brooklyn). My old host had random spikes, but this feels much more stable.
2
N NetworkNerd 3 weeks ago
Their network is generally really good. I've used their IP Transit before for another project and it was rock solid. You get what you pay for.
5
C CyberShield 3 weeks ago
Make sure you've got good DDoS protection enabled. NYCServers offers it, and it's worth it if your site gets any decent traffic. Saved my butt a few times.
12
T TechGuyNYC 3 weeks ago
Good call, I'll double check that. Thanks!

Anyone got a working NYCServers coupon for dedicated servers right now?

S ServerSlayer 4 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
I used 'NYC20OFF' last month for 20% off my first dedicated server, but not sure if it's still active.

Thinking of switching to NYCServers for managed services. Any hidden discounts or bundle deals I should know about?

M ManagedMaster 2 days ago ✓ Best Answer
They often do custom quotes for managed services. Sometimes you get a better deal just by asking directly for what you need instead of picking from their standard packages.
8
N NetNinja 2 days ago
Yeah, I got a better price on DDoS protection that way.
1
B BizBoostNYC 2 days ago
That makes sense, I'll try reaching out.
5
S StudentSaver 2 days ago
Check for any student discounts if you're eligible. Some providers offer those for educational projects.
2
B BizBoostNYC 2 days ago
Nope, this is for a business.
4
C ContractKing 2 days ago
I heard if you commit to a longer contract (like 12+ months) they'll sometimes throw in extra bandwidth or a free month.
10
B BizBoostNYC 2 days ago
Interesting, I'm planning long-term anyway.

Thinking of moving our small business hosting from our current provider to NYCServers. Anyone have experience with their Small Business Solutions or Web Hosting? Specifically concerned about uptime and support response times.

P PriyaS 2 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
We've been with NYCServers for about 6 months now for our main website and email hosting. Uptime has been solid, haven't had any noticeable downtime. Support is pretty responsive, usually get a first reply within an hour or two during business hours. Weekends can be a bit slower but still decent.
11
R RaviK 2 weeks ago
Good to know about the uptime. That's my main concern.
4
G GamerRaj 2 weeks ago

5

Web hosting, the standard package.

Following this thread. Was also curious about their small business offerings. My current host is getting pricey.

A Ankit87 2 weeks ago
I'm on their Web Hosting basic plan for a personal project, and it's been okay. Support is generally good, but I had one issue with SSL setup that took a bit longer to resolve than I expected. Overall, no major complaints for the price point.
4
R RaviK 2 weeks ago
Was it a complex setup or a basic one?
7
N NikhilS 2 weeks ago
SSL can be tricky sometimes.
